Wirral Community Acupuncture

My story

In August 2007 whilst vacationing in France, me and my beautiful daughter were involved in a very serious RTA whereby a drunk driver hit us head on and careered our vehicle across the opposite carriageway into a wall. The outcome: we narrowly escaped with our lives but the impact to my lower back lead to devastating damage. My little Elise suffered whiplash and superficial burns whereas I suffered damage to my back and had an annular tear and bulge between L4 and L5 putting pressure on the surrounding nerves. Basically, the intervertebral discs ripped leaving me in excruciating, chronic pain. The prognosis was this was a degenerative condition which would never improve. After  numerous consultations with a back specialist, MRI scan and six months of physiotherapy, I was told that I had to learn how to manage the pain and live with chronic pain for the rest of my life. For those of you who know me, I have always lead an active lifestyle which incorporated fitness and dance. This was a crushing blow so in defiance I self medicated with anti-inflammatories and danced through the pain.

In the autumn of 2013, I was incapacitated for three days due to cervical neck pain. I could hardly move. Regular neck pain had also been a by-product of the accident. I had received chiropractic treatment in the past which had always rectified it for a short period but I was not overly enamoured with the cracking sounds of my neck when the treatment was administered - perfectly normal but disconcerting for me who can at times be a little squeamish. At my whits end, I scoured the internet for a local acupuncturist. It was then that I found Wirral Community Acupuncture I had always been curious about acupuntcure and had heard positive accounts, however fear of the unknown and the cost had always deterred me from pursuing it as a course of treatment. I figured I was at rock bottom and had nothing to lose, so called up and made an appointment for that day.

I was not particularly skeptical about the holistic approach but not a huge believer that it would work either. Skeptics assert that you have to believe in this sort of stuff for it to work. I had no feeling either way, like I said I had hit rock bottom and was willing to try ANYTHING. The results were amazing. After my initial session, most of my mobility was restored and I felt energised. I followed the recomendation to have another treatment the same week in view of my chronic pain and my neck was healed. My curiosity was aroused and my acupuncture journey began. I had weekly treatment for the next three months and felt immediate relief on my back and kidneys (pregnancy ailment). I followed it up with monthly maintenance visits and now go on a less frequent basis just to top up my Qi energy. Right here, right now, I am fixed and have NO PAIN whatsoever.

Wirral Community Acupuncture

Founded by Leon and Emma Southgate, the multi-bed clinic's mission statement was to make acupuncture affordable for people. In that way making it something that they could consistently avail themselves of for a continued period of time. The multi-bed approach leads to economies of scale and allows Leon and Emma to treat several patients at a time whilst maintaining their privacy by using screen dividers.

Methodology

Emma and Leon conduct a consultation on your first visit to establish any pre-existing conditions and to understand your medical history. At all times, privacy is ensured and they make you feel so at ease with their compassionate approach. They check your pulse as well as inspecting your tongue to aid in their diagnosis.  They are then able to devise a course of treatment tailored just for you. Acupuncture needles are then inserted for anywhere between 20 and 40 minutes.

Treatments
  • Fertility
  • Addictions
  • Reiki & Reflexology
  • Facial rejuvenation acupuncture
