REVIEW: Peter Pan At St Helens Theatre Royal

Peter Pan Flies into St Helens Theatre Royal and delights audiences.

Advertised as St Helens Strictly Swashbuckling Christmas Panto, the highly engaging production written by J.M. Barrie exploded onto stage on Wednesday night for the Press night performance. With the fabulous Louis Emerick playing dual roles of Captain Hook and Mr Darling and Strictly's Kristina Rihanoff as Tinkerbell, the show was a joyous affair for adults and children alike. Resident Dame Si Foster delighted the audiences with his performance as the comical Mrs Smee and Mrs Darling, whilst Lewis Devine played the lead role of Peter Pan. Georgina Parkinson played Wendy and Abigail Middleton Tiger-Lily.

Kristina Rihanoff was graceful in her role as Tinkerbell and performed the role beautifully.

From the get-go, the production quality was high, the set was magical and full of sparkle. The choreography was impressive with the young cast members performing magnificently. They are to be commended for their delivery. They were fabulous in both their speaking parts and choreography.

Louis Emerick was fabulous. He was humorous and a lovable evil character in my view. He has a cheeky charm and a way of engaging with the audience.A particular highlight of mine was Act 2 when the 3D element was introduced to the show. It was absolutely brilliant and extremely realistic. I jumped as an adult, so I'm sure the children did so too. That said, there wasn't anything too scary for young theatre-goers. The 3d scenes added to the experience and were very engaging. It was a totally immersive experience and an enjoyable one at that.

The show was of appropriate length and the musical score complimented the production beautifully. I think they missed a trick by not incorporating the song "This is me" from The Greatest Showman. They could have included Mrs Smee singing it as "This is Smee".

If you are looking for a fun, all-encompassing Christmas panto, this is the one for you. It is without question the best panto that I've seen to date. From the production, the script and the casting, it was thoroughly well done and a huge hit with me. My friend Traci loved it as did my 16 year daughter Elise and her friend Lauren.

Book today before Peter Pan flies away. It runs until Sunday 13th January 2019
