Review: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at St Helens Theatre Royal
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at St Helens Theatre Royal delivered an evening of enchantment and hilarity, making it a standout festive treat for audiences of all ages. I attended the Press & Guest Night performance with a friend and another companion who brought her young daughter and son along. It was delightful to see how much everyone in our group, from the adults to children, thoroughly enjoyed the show.

The production struck an excellent balance between humour aimed at adults and charming content that kept younger viewers entertained. The creative twist of presenting the dwarves as puppets controlled by individuals in morph suits added a unique, whimsical touch, while their voices—brought to life by beloved Merseyside celebrities such as Johnny Vegas, Joel Ross, Craig Phillips, Louis Emerick, John May and Pete Price—infused the characters with humour and personality.

Pop legend and West End star Maureen Nolan shone as the Wicked Queen, blending villainy with theatrical flair. Chantelle Morgan gave a radiant performance as Snow White, perfectly capturing the innocence and kindness of the character. Coronation Street actor Emrhys Cooper was dashing as Prince Fredrick, and the audience loved St Helens’ favourites Lewis Devine as the cheeky Muddles and Richard Aucott as the hilarious Nurse Nelly. The costumes were exceptional as always.

Leanne Campbell's digital appearance as the Magic Mirror added a modern twist to the production, proving that the magic of panto can blend tradition with technology seamlessly.
The production design, from the vibrant costumes to the enchanting set, created a magical atmosphere. Coupled with a hearty dose of festive cheer and interactive audience moments, this show embodies the spirit of Christmas theatre.
