REVIEW: Cinderella at the Epstein Theatre: A Scouse Fairy Tale Full of Fun and Sparkle
Running until Sunday, 4th January 2026, the Epstein Theatre’s production of Cinderella is an absolute treat for the whole family. With a fantastic local cast, including beloved Radio City alum Leanne Campbell as the Fairy Godmother, the show is full of Liverpudlian charm and plenty of laughs.
It was such a treat to revisit the Epstein after a hiatus away from its inviting environment. The newly revamped bar area looks fantastic, and it was my first time experiencing the theatre since it reopened its doors.

As highlighted in the official press release, this magical production has swept into Liverpool’s historic venue to enchant audiences this Christmas season. Alongside Leanne Campbell, Corrie’s Katie McGlynn shines as Cinderella, and the One Show and BBC Radio Merseyside’s Kevin Duala brings endless energy as Buttons. Conor Barrie absolutely steals scenes as Dandini with his exuberance and high-octane energy, and the Ugly Sisters, nicknamed Ozempic and Mounjaro add a hilarious twist with local flair.

Expect lots of Scouse humour, some Motown tunes from Buttons, and a delightful duet of "That's What Friends Are For" that highlights the chemistry between Cinderella and her friend-zoned pal. The younger members of the audience will no doubt be captivated at some point, especially when the song “Golden” kicks in, bringing strong voices and excited hearts together.

Leanne Campbell’s Fairy Godmother steals the spotlight with a powerhouse rendition of "One Moment in Time" as ballet dancers swirl around in beautiful costumes. She absolutely shines as the Fairy Godmother, bringing her well-loved warmth and infectious energy to the stage. A true Liverpool favourite, Leanne is known from her long-standing role at Radio City, where she was the station’s first female breakfast show host for over two decades. Her deep connection to the city is evident, and she has a special knack for engaging audiences both young and old.

Leanne’s performance lights up the theatre, and you can actually feel the genuine affection the city has for her in every scene she’s in. Whether she’s belting out a Whitney Houston classic or sharing a laugh with the crowd, she effortlessly bridges the gap between generations, making everyone feel included and enchanted. Even whilst rolling around on the floor, she still looks like a Queen.
Michael Nelson truly lives up to the princely role, bringing both charm and charisma to the stage as the Prince. He not only sings beautifully but also shares a wonderful onstage chemistry with Katie McGlynn’s Cinderella. With poise and just the right amount of gravitas, he makes the fairytale romance feel truly magical.
