Joe Little: Review of tracks performed at The Carter's Arms Liverpool

Joe Little Performing at Alexanders Chester
I  stumbled upon Joe Little's music quite inadvertently and quite recently. Here is a review of a collection of some of the tracks performed by the up and coming artist at The Carter's Arms in Liverpool on 19th December 2013. Joe is a solo folk and blues artist who is making his presence known.

Joe serves up a superbly grown up sound, rich in emotion with heartfelt recollections of significant events. There is a credibility to his delivery, a sense of confidence and authority. Whether it be haunting ballads such as "Take a breath" or up tempo offerings such as "Sunburnt" he convinces the audience that he knows exactly what he is talking about and therefore they must listen.

Take a breath

This is a haunting track whereby you really take notice, no lyric evades you. The listener stands to attention as Joe demonstrates with ease his beautiful range and crisp vocals. His effortless acoustic delivery is deliberately paced and measured. You cannot help but be captivated by him as you at the end of the track find yourself ready to exhale. Stunning.

Sunburnt

An up tempo Blues track whereby Joe sings with exuberance accompanied beautifully by his acoustic guitar which he plays with gusto. Despite the pain of being burnt (figuratively or literally), he is able to show positivity despite adversity. This to me is a wonderful message that is woven into the fabric of this lovely little number.

Flowers

To me, this track represents moving on from a past relationship, coming to terms with the fact that the flowers have now wilted and the interaction is mourned. Lyrics such as  "I have nothing left" and "It's not the end for you and me" are preceded by "you expect me to wait" and "you're not going to wait" It seems to show the stages almost like a bereavement that are endured when a relationship comes to an end. What ensues is a sense of acceptance.

I look forward to hearing more from Joe who has proved that he is a talented singer songwriter. Watch this space for more reviews. In the meantime, if like me you would like to track his progress, follow the links below to follow him.
