REVIEW: We Are Chos3n - Debut Album release 1st May 2015

We are Chos3n are a phenomenally talented trio of performers who I had the privilege of witnessing sing at my cousin's wedding in February of this year. I was therefore extremely delighted when I was asked to review the material for their debut album release.  Having witnessed their talent first hand and being incredibly moved and captivated by them, it is with great pleasure that I give my feedback on their release and I dedicate this blog post to exactly that.

We are Chos3n originate from Birmingham and are fellow Midlanders. However, my affinity with the collective runs deeper than where they hail from. This three track offering is simply stunning and worthy of appraisal. The "e "in the word chosen is reflected as the number 3 to represent the trio. The number 3 in biblical references is symbolic of that which is solid, real and substantial. It represents completion, perfection and unity. I think this is quite apt in the case of the trio and their musical delivery.
Sophistication personified, the trio mean business with their debut album

So, today: Friday 1st May 2015 sees the release of the talented trios debut album "We are Chos3n" via West midlands label - Daisy records

Chos3n said of their release ' We are not trying to appeal, we are just trying to minister to peoples hearts, of course we would like to think that we are aiming for the Gospel market and it would be wonderful also to crossover into mainstream to touch more people with the messages in our songs.'

The album was prduced by Joel Farrell and Tony Young with a guest track "Dust your shoulders off" produced by U.S David Givens. It is an offering of inspirational music, a mix of contemporary and classic. The  album delivers a veritable consommé of Jazz, Neo Soul, RnB and Gospel by the artists who are no strangers to the music industry.

You're with me - feat Priscilla Bailey (4:06)

Tight harmonies, seamless transitions all reinforce the classy, sophistication and persona of the group. From first listen, it grips you. The harmony, the lyrical content reinforcing the message. Simple yet effective. "Before the very foundations of the earth you were chosen"
Slick, smooth, effortless delivery. Praise and worship at its finest. This is undoubtedly my favourite track on the album; uplifting, refreshing and very memorable. I found myself humming this after hearing it only once. It is superb and delicately crafted.

No will no word, (3:59)

A retro sound reminiscent of  60's Soul music.

Make me a believer (4:47)

I love the guitar and  the drum beat on this upbeat gospel track. There is no wonder that this has received airplay on BBC introducing, a platform for showcasing unsigned music.

The album is a bold and confident offering by the trio and the memory of the polished delivery lingers with the listener long after the tracks have been heard. Look out for this collective. Success awaits them and deservedly so. Whether you are a seasoned listener of gospel music or not, this album will appeal and is definitely worthy of purchase.

The We Are Chos3n album can be purchased here and is available for digital download as well as purchase in record stores.

Album rating 5 stars

In other news, the trio have been making waves and have picked up a MOBO interview from Gospel writer Steve Alexander Smith (British Black Gospel Author and MOBO Specialist Gospel Writer).
