Review: Franklyn's Bar & Kitchen Heswall

After a busy day in the office with the sun still shining gloriously outside, the executive decision of the day was to visit somewhere for a few drinks after work. The prerequisites of said establishment were that it was within walking distance, somewhere that played great music, had the option to sit outside and most importantly offered exquisite cocktails.

Franklyn's in Heswall was my immediate choice. Situated on Telegraph Road, the venue is a classy establishment that has an extensive selection of classic and contemporary cocktails on offer. As soon as you walk in, the music and ambiance of the place invites relaxation and a guarantee of a chilled out experience in it's stylish surroundings - a perfect place to wind down after a busy day.

We received a warm welcome from the staff who were keen to engage with us and to give us the lowdown on the many cocktails on offer. Excited that we had just made it for the two for one part of the day, we were keen to sample the signature cocktails. Ollie and Boo were our attentive bartenders for the evening and I must say, I was extremely impressed with the high level of service that they delivered.

The lovely Ollie and Boo
When presented with the menu, it is no surprise that you are completely overwhelmed with the extensive choice of cocktails on offer.  Our first drink of choice was the T-rifle. A genius concoction of butterscotch schnapps, Amaretto, Harvey's Bristol cream, Strawberry puree, ice cream and fresh cream, this was a trifle in a glass with a fantastic fusion of some of the old alcoholic faves. I was in heaven from the moment this beverage touched my lips. It's a good job I had a light lunch as I am sure that this was laden in calories. There was a cherry on top, so I'm hoping that this piece of fruit negated the calorific content of what I believe to be THE best cocktail in the world (My world at least).

The best cocktail in THE world - T-Rifle

Drink number two was a wonderful fusion of fresh strawberries muddled with Zubbrowka bison vodka, passionfruit liquer and  cranberry juice layered with Prosecco. This was a sharp contrast to the T-rifle, less sweet but refreshing and tantalising on the tongue.
Passionate Dream
We finished off the evening with one of Ollie's choices. It was a joy to watch him create the cocktails with flair and enthusiasm. June bug (ironically served on the 1st July) was a wonderful choice. Midori Malibu, creme de banane shaken with sours and fresh pineapple was the perfect dessert for our three courses of cocktails.

If you are looking for an oasis where you can watch the world go by or sit inside and enjoy the music, give Franklyn's a visit. The staff are engaging, the menu for food and drink extensive and the welcome is a friendly one.
